The new edition of the only national survey of green initiatives in Bulgaria - “Green Solutions from Bulgaria” has been launched. MOVE.BG is conducting the survey for the second consecutive year with the aim of supporting Bulgaria's prosperity by examining the development on an annual basis of the three key groups for the country's successful green transformation - green startups, civil society organizations, and scientific initiatives. This year's survey has a special focus on innovation due to its benefits for economic development, nature conservation, and increasing the well-being of society, on the one hand. On the other hand, because Bulgaria lags in this key area, which requires challenges to be explored in order to take the necessary measures to support green innovators. MOVE.BG will summarize the findings of the survey in a special report with recommendations for institutions to improve the environment for the development of green innovation.
The survey questionnaire is open for filling until May 31 (link here in BG) and is aimed at:
- Green innovative startups and scaleups;
- Green civil society organisations;
- Green science initiatives (projects and developments of individual scientists or scientific teams/units)
The three groups can fill in the survey questionnaire (link here) and share the problems that hinder their development, as well as provide recommendations to the institutions. The data will be compiled by MOVE.BG into a report, and the information will be presented in a categorised and anonymous way, so participants can feel free to share their concerns and ideas to help the environment.
Collecting data on the state of green initiatives is key to creating the necessary policies, based on information about real challenges and development trends. The use of data is an essential way of creating policies in leading European countries and in the European institutions.
"Green Solutions from Bulgaria 2025” is supported by Rezolv Energy and Lidl Bulgaria. The survey partner is the sociological agency “Nasoka”.
Focus innovation: why is it needed?
Due to its importance for economic development, prosperity and environmental protection, innovation has been identified as one of the three pillars in this year's “A competitiveness compass for the EU” - the Compass is the roadmap of policies and measures that will guide the new European Commission over the next five years and which reaffirms green transformation as a key long-term vision for EU development.
However, Bulgaria continues to face serious challenges in developing its innovative potential. Our country is ranked second to last in the EU Innovation Scoreboard 2024. Bulgaria is in the category of the least developed innovators (Emerging Innovators), but lags by 70% compared to the first three countries in this group - Croatia, Poland, and Slovakia. Bulgaria also ranks last in the EU Eco-Innovation Index 2024. Both in 2014, when the first edition of the index was conducted, and in 2024, our country continues to occupy this place.
